At Special Youth Challenge, we realize that many of the youth who are selected to participate in the program may have little or no experience with the outdoors and all of our many activities. Our only requirements for participants are that the youth be between the ages of 8-19 for fishing and between the ages of 13-19 for hunting, a resident of the state where the event is being held, and be physically challenged or have (or had) a life threatening disease or injury.
Our staff and volunteers will determine each participant’s skill and ability level for the various outdoor activities (ie; fishing, camping, hunting) and work with each youth to maximize their overall experience.
During the event, the youth and their guest will spend the night at a motel or at the camp lodge. All expenses are covered by contributions from individuals, local businesses and organizations, and by various church groups. These generous contributors believe that these youth are only “handicapped” if we neglect to share with them about God’s great outdoors and teach them about our responsibility as stewards of this great land.
Teaching, Leading, and Helping physically challenged youth to develop sportsmen's skills to empower them to overcome some of their disability and enjoy God’s great outdoors. |
